Live Music Rocks
Hi Everyone
I’ve lived in Mississauga, Ontario, most of my life.
Even as recently as last year all I had was a vague notion that there was a music scene developing in an area of this city called Port Credit. I’d heard that a few bars sporadically featured live bands, and of course there was the annual Blues Festival.
I was unaware that just five kilometres from where I live, there were a couple of clubs that featured live music almost every day of the week with a different artist or group each night.
The newest member of The Lightfoot Band has his own group, the Bill Bell Trio. When they aren’t touring separately with top concert acts, they get together and perform with some regularity at a club called Shore Grill and Grotto on Lakeshore Road in Port Credit.
We Managed To Drag Ourselves Away From Netflix

This past Sunday, Jeanette and I decided to go and see Bill’s trio. The first set was at 6 pm, but Bill cautioned me that the place tended to fill up quickly, so we arrived at 5:30. He wasn’t kidding. We managed to find a table near the bar about thirty feet from the stage. Within minutes, it was standing room only.
Bill on guitar, Stan Miczek on bass, and drummer Blake Fraser began with ‘The Maker, ’ a song written by Daniel Lanois. They crushed it. These guys are real pros. During the three sets, they did tunes by artists like Tom Petty, The Traveling Wilburys, Chris Isaak, The Cars, and more. Each one was tight, and some of them featured three-part vocal harmony.

It’s like magic. These guys don’t rehearse. They just show up and play. I’ve done similar things in the past, and it can be a real buzz when it’s the right combination of players.
The sound is amazingly full with just the three of them, however I couldn’t help but imagine keyboard parts swirling around tastefully and/or screaming belligerently.
Maybe I could stealth-weasel my way in there and sit in for an evening. Who knows? I’ve done it before…..
